30 Years Experience in Citrus
The reason I’ve chosen to run as an independent is that I believe both parties have lost their allegiance to the platforms on which they once stood. The Republican Party no longer adheres to the conservative viewpoint of less government, nor does the Democratic Party hold any allegiance to the average American. Of course, this is much more clearly discerned at the National level, but it flows over into local politics as well. Our fourth branch of government is the reason for the demise of both parties, the Lobbyists! At the local level both parties get involved in the whirlwind and lose sight of what should be the focus of their attention, the American, Levy, Citrus, and Hernando County Families. The family has been the cornerstone of our Great Nation since day one and any law or act that sets forth conditions that will adversely affect that institution is fundamentally tearing down our Democracy, brick by brick, stone by stone. Before a law, ordinance, or a resolution is passed, the first question that should be asked is, “how will it affect our families?” The destiny of our Nation rests with our children, we, as leaders must preserve conditions that allow our children to flourish. It is from this resource that our future Doctors, Leaders, Scientists, will emerge, offering advances in Science, Medicine and in other arenas, perhaps even cures for maladies that millions face today. Our public schools in the past along with a strong American Family have produced many who have discovered cures for various sicknesses and other discoveries that have benefited mankind worldwide. Families and children need to be nurtured; they do not need controllable events that disrupt the family life. When gas prices rise through taxes or the oil companies, this disrupts the family existence; it becomes necessary for their parents to often find 2nd and 3rd jobs to be able to make ends meet. When parents are driven out of the home to accomplish this, you are removing valuable role models to the children, who are often left to fend for themselves, with sometimes-disastrous results.
I came to Citrus County in 1977, right out of Castleton State College in Vermont, with a B.A. in Sociology. Castleton is part of the University of Vermont and I attended from 1973 to 1977. Graduating in 1977 I decided to leave the cold country for awhile and ended up in Citrus County! My family and I fell in love with the area and never went back.
I have worked all my life with the public, and have come to understand the many misgivings men and women have about politics and the people that are suppose to represent them. It is with that in mind, that I have decided to run for the vacated seat of Charles Dean in the Florida House of Representatives.
The lobbyists are on the verge of destroying our Democracy. They have so much influence on who will run for office that only their candidates get elected. The only hope for our State and Country is to have public financing of campaigns, effectively pulling the plug on the lobbyists.
Some of the problems facing the citizens of District 43 and the rest of Florida are dramatic and they will have a long-term effect on the majority of our citizenry. The many people who have lost their home owners insurance are now facing the arduous task of finding a replacement carrier and the few that are available require half up front, a payment which can be as much as $600, or more! The homeowners who have been making monthly payments that could fit into their budgets are now required to find additional funds, which most do not have. This is unacceptable!
